Meet Principal Coleman
Principal Latisha Coleman began her teaching career 21 years ago in Washington, DC. Since then, she has served as a principal, instructional coach, assistant principal, and a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation teaching fellow. In addition, Mrs. Coleman was the founding middle school principal of a high-performing charter school in the District. She has served as the Director of Redesign and assistant principal at Anacostia High School. She helped Anacostia see significant gains in the PARCC English Language Arts (ELA) performance and oversaw the implementation of project-based learning, career academies and the dream team.
Mrs. Coleman holds a bachelor's degree from Dickson College. In addition, she earned a Master's in Executive Leadership from Georgetown University and a Master's in Education Policy and Leadership from the University of Maryland, College Park.
At Johnson, Mrs. Coleman has proven herself to be committed to the students, faculty, and staff. In her brief tenure as interim principal, she has created a welcoming learning and work environment that has dramatically improved employee morale and student performance. The John Hayden Johnson community is excited to have Principal Coleman as their permanent principal of record. Her inspirational quote to herself, staff, and students is “excellence is never an accident; it is the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligence, direction, skillful execution, and vision to see obstacles and opportunities.”
